Practice/Department: Strategy Execution Practice
Location: Cologne, Germany
Position Type: Full Time, Non-Exempt

About the role:

We exist to inspire and equip people to do the best work of their lives, creating better businesses and a better world. BTS is a global professional services firm that sits at the intersection between strategy and culture, creating powerful experiences to help leaders build the future of their businesses. We have over 800 professionals in more than 30 offices located across six continents.

The pace of change is increasing before our very eyes. In this environment, the primary barrier to success and progress for businesses is no longer technology. Rather the crucial factor is an organisations ability to change and this is often down to people – in their ability to learn, adapt and thrive, and for leaders to inspire and sustain their people through change. This is where BTS comes in. We focus on the people side of strategy, supporting leaders in shifting their culture, behaviours and ways of operating. We work with leaders at all levels to help them make better decisions, convert these decisions to actions and deliver results.

Our consultants typically work directly with Global Fortune CEOs, CFOs, CLOs as well as leaders at every level of the organisation. At our core, we believe people learn best by doing. For over 30 years, we've been designing fun, powerful experiences that build alignment and execution capability around key strategic priorities and have profound and lasting impact on people and their careers. We inspire new ways of thinking, build critical capabilities and unleash business success… It’s strategy made personal.

We work in small teams to develop experiential interventions, some of which may include customised business simulations, which support organisations in building and transforming their future workforce capability and culture. Often we facilitate learning journeys directly with our clients in a workshop setting that incorporates humour, fun and competition, in order to enable lasting change.

BTSers are expected to be team players, leaders and entrepreneurs. Our organisation is intentionally flat.

In your role as Consultant you will be asked to do three things – maintain client relationships, design solutions and deliver our experiences and programmes. You’ll do this with leaders from some of the world’s leading corporations - Global 100 and 500 companies. You’ll learn how their business works and what their strategies are, and you’ll be shaping the leadership capabilities and culture of the organisation.

Variety is key in all our roles. You’ll work on multiple projects at one time, across different industries, and with different internal teams. Some of these projects you will be leading. At the moment, much of our work is virtual but post-pandemic we expect to be traveling approximately 30-50% of the time.

The rest of your time is spent creating the amazing concepts and experiences we build for our clients and supporting them in creating lasting and meaningful change. Interviewing leaders, conducting research and analysis, testing and launching programmes and achieving amazing results for our clients. You’ll laugh a lot and have a lot of fun…it’s one of our core values! And this is all done in a team-based setting where our entrepreneurial culture of freedom and responsibility empowers you to contribute from your first day.

You'll be curious, creative, collaborative and credible. You'll bring an executive presence and sense of gravitas built on experience (2 years+) in a consulting or corporate environment. Ideally you will bring experience in a people focussed role whether as a consultant, change or strategy manager.

About you:

  1. take a deep interest in the world of business and understand what makes organisations tick. Being great with your business and financial acumen is a must as these skills will regularly be called upon as you develop an intimate understanding of our client’s business and how we shape development experiences which are contextually rich in their strategy, business and desired outcomes.

You’ll be comfortable working with ambiguity and drawing upon your entrepreneurial drive to achieve outcomes. You will have experience in leading projects and be able to navigate through the highs and lows of demanding but rewarding work. Business development experience is preferred but not essential…it’s the consultative mindset and approach we’re looking for here.

A passion to create real and lasting change for organisations and their people is a must. You are able to communicate effectively with everyone you meet, you'll be skilled in leveraging a variety of communication channels, especially those requiring digital architecture. A desire and ability to present to a room that might have 100+ smart, eager people in it is a must - whether via zoom or in person.

You'll hold a good university degree, be willing to travel and be eligible to work in Cologne. Our hybrid working model foresees a roughly 60% presence at the BTS office in Cologne and 40 % availability in homeoffice. The fluent command of German and English (both in spoken and written language) and working permission for Germany/ EU is required for this role. The position is in general advertised as a 100% position.
