What you’ll do at BTS
Working with our learning experience designers, animators and the wider learning design team, you’ll shape the look and feel of our self-paced digital learning, turning complex ideas into clear, engaging visuals that add value to the customer’s business challenge. This includes:
- Visual design and layout – Design polished, user-centered e-learning visuals and layouts, grounded in UI/UX principles and built in the Adobe Creative Suite.
- E-learning visual design – Visualize complex concepts and develop visual storyboards that bring the learning solution to life.
- Team leadership – Delegate to and oversee collaborators, such as learning experience designers and animators, to keep the creative vision consistent.
- Video and storyboarding – Storyboard and produce video content that supports the learning experience.
- Client interaction – Present your work and communicate directly with clients, taking in feedback and guiding them to a solution that meets their needs.

What we are looking for
Location and hours
Office is based in Toronto and candidates must reside within the Ontario or British Columbia provinces; however candidates are able to work fully remote.
This is a contract role with an average commitment of 15–25 hours per week.
An Art Director at BTS Custom Digital Learning is the visual lead behind our self-paced digital experiences. This role sits at the crossroads of design, learning and technology, and it turns great learning ideas into experiences people want to click through.
You are a visual thinker and a natural collaborator. You know what makes e-learning clear and engaging, and you can explain your design choices to clients as well as to teammates. You’ll work day to day with learning experience designers and animators, and you’ll guide the creative direction of the solutions we build together.
Here’s what you’ll need to succeed:
What you’ll need
- Experience – 1–2 years as an Art Director or similar role.
- Client-facing experience – At least 1 year working directly with clients.
- AI tools – You have experience using AI tools.
- You design with craft – You’re highly proficient in the Adobe Creative Suite, especially Illustrator, and you have a solid foundation in UI/UX design principles.
- You make learning visual – You’ve designed e-learning media and you know how to turn complex concepts into clear, memorable visuals.
- You think in storyboards – You plan visual and video experiences frame by frame, and you’ve storyboarded and produced video content.
- You lead creative collaboration – You work well in cross-functional teams, and you can delegate to and oversee learning experience designers and animators.
- You’re organized and curious – You’re detail-oriented and a quick learner, with the organization to keep many moving pieces on track.
Nice to have
It’s ok if you don’t have these, but if you do, you’ll add tremendous value to our team:
- Authoring tools and LMS platforms – Experience with Articulate Storyline, Rise, or LMS platforms, including SCORM packaging.
- Claude and AI tools – Familiarity with Claude and openness to exploring AI tools in the design workflow.
- Video creation tools – Experience with video creation tools such as Adobe Premiere, Adobe Animate, or Synthesia.
- Basic coding – Basic coding experience (HTML, JavaScript).
Portfolio requirements
Please include the following in your portfolio:
- E-learning design samples – Design samples from e-learning modules you created.
- A fully developed e-learning course – At least one fully developed e-learning course (Storyline, Rise, HTML, or similar), along with a brief description of your role on the project, your design process, the team you collaborated with, and the client problem you were solving.
- Animation or video work – Include storyboards and a summary of your process.
- A project challenge – An example of a project challenge you faced and how you resolved it.
